THE ‘TIME OUT’ CLASS

 

  1. We will run a ‘Time Out’ class for children whose lack of discipline has become an issue.
  2. The ‘Time Out” class is an opportunity for the pupil to take stock of and to change his/her attitude and/or behaviour before the school implements proceedings for serious misconduct as detailed in the GDE Policy Register 2002 – service 1, Misconduct of Learners at Public Schools and Disciplinary Proceedings. (See attached addendum 1).
  3. To qualify for the “Time Out’ class, Teachers will need to have recommended a child to the SMT for consideration for inclusion in the ‘Time Out Class’.
  4. The Parents will be notified in writing of the school’s intention to place a child in the ‘Time Out’ class.
  5. The ‘Time Out’ class will be held in the foyer of the hall or any other designated area. A qualified Teacher will supervise the class. There will be desks, chairs and all the necessary equipment needed for normal teaching to take place. Children will collect work from their regular teachers and complete it under the supervision of the ‘Time Out’ teacher.
  6. The teacher of the class will spend some time counselling the children with regards to the expected behaviour and attitude of children at our school.
  7. Children in the ‘Time Out’ class will take their breaks on the lawn outside the foyer.
  8. They will not be allowed to take part in extra mural activities for the duration of their stay in the ‘Time Out’ class.
  9. The ‘Time Out’ class will run for a period of two weeks from time to time as determined by the school.
