Lynnwood Ridge Primary School

20 April 2010

Dear Parents/Guardians,

At our school, we are involved with the development of the child in totality (emotional, physical and intellectual) and believe that all areas are integrated. Healthy diets and regular meals/snacks are imperative for children to maintain good concentration at school.

At the beginning of the year, the Foundation Phase introduced a 10 minute snack time during the morning to break the long period before first break which is only at 10:10. The teachers have found this snack time to be really beneficial in giving the children the extra boost in energy and concentration that they need. Thanks to all the parents who assist us by packing the necessary fruit, salad, nuts, raisins, etc for your child on a daily basis and for making the snack time so successful.

Children in the Foundation Phase are encouraged to pack healthy lunches and are not allowed to bring sweets and fizzy cold drinks to school. They are also not allowed to buy these items from the tuckshop during school time.

However, we are very concerned that some children who stay after school for extra murals or aftercare are spending what we believe should be lunch money on handfuls of sweets! As teachers we have no control over what the children spend their money on after school and as “absent” parents neither do you. Please encourage your child not to buy sweets with their lunch money.

It is possible for parents to purchase prepaid lunches from the tuckshop by filling in the relevant information on the attached form. The tuckshop ladies - Mrs Gilbride and Mrs van Rensburg are very accommodating when it comes to ordering lunch for your child and special arrangements can be made for example: first break only/second break only/Friday only/specific sports days etc. Please contact the tuckshop ladies to discuss any special arrangements with them 012 3617214.

We look forward to your support in this very important matter.

 Kind regards,

 Mrs B. Forrest
