Dear Parents/ Guardians
MEDICATION
The Gauteng Education Department has
clearly instructed schools NOT to
administer any medication to the learners. Any staff
member who administers medication to a learner is at risk,
especially if there are any negative consequences.
This is a difficult situation for
parents, learners and staff!
The ONLY WAY that we can administer
medication is if the parent/s give WRITTEN permission
for specific medication/s to be given to their child.
A written, faxed or e-mailed letter
will be permissible.
NO VERBAL PERMISSION WILL BE
ACCEPTABLE.
A register will be kept of learners who
are given medication, together with the letter of permission
from the parent/guardian.
Please assist us with your co-operation
in this matter. The legal implications of the situation are
serious and we cannot be lenient with any individual case.
Be aware also that if an operation is required e.g. for a
broken arm, this could be delayed by hours if medication has
been administered.
