What is the
Foundation Phase? |
 |
|
The Foundation Phase includes learners in grades i, ii and iii.
At Lynnwood Ridge there are six grade i and ii classes and five
grade iii classes. During these crucial three years the teachers
strive to put in place and solidify the foundations of learning.
The Curriculum
In the
Foundation Phase,
the eight learning areas (Languages, Mathematics, Natural Sciences,
Social Sciences, Technology, Arts and Culture, Economic and Management
Sciences and Life Orientation) are incorporated into three learning
programmes (Numeracy, Literacy and Life Skills) which are
linked in the curriculum. Thus, the principle of of integrated
learning is applied. This system provides opportunities for learners
to attain skills and acquire knowledge and develop attitudes and
values across the curriculum. The learning programmes contain the work
schedules and lesson plans which have been developed according to the
educational, social, emotional and physical needs of the learners at
Lynnwood Ridge Primary.
Outdoor learning is fun!
The
Child
At Lynnwood Ridge we strive to develop each
and every child's potential. Cultural and sporting activities are
encouraged and the children become environmentally aware by
participating in our school's recycling programme.
We
CARE about our environment
The
Parent
The school is a central part of the community
it serves. At Lynnwood Ridge we encourage parents to be involved in
the school community. Parents, who attend sporting and social
functions, become familiar with our system of education, reap the
rewards, as their children become secure and confident in the
knowledge that they are loved and supported. |
|
The
Teacher
Our
Teachers are competent,
organised and caring. The eclectic mix of staff enhances the
dynamics of the teaching situation. Teachers from each grade plan and
brainstorm together to provide stimulating and appealing lessons. This
pooling of intellectual resources ensures optimal learning
opportunities across any grade level. Learners are led towards
self-fulfilment by encouraging them to become creative, divergent
thinkers who are confident, well adjusted and have a sense of purpose,
compassion and self respect.
